Brightspace Service User permissions
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Summary
This article lists the permissions the role of the Brightspace Service User needs, so the Eduframe integration can do its work in Brightspace.
Note: You create the Service User while setting up the connection. See 📄 Setting up Eduframe and Brightspace connection.

Which role interactions does the Service User need?
Eduframe searches for users in Brightspace and enrolls them in course offerings. Edit the role interactions of the roles below and select the role of the Service User, on both Organization and Course Offering level:
Search For: on every role. Eduframe also uses users that already exist in Brightspace, and those can have any role in the organization.
Enroll: on the participant role and on every Brightspace role that is linked to an Eduframe teacher role.
Note: Whenever you link another Brightspace role in 'Role links', also set Enroll on that role. Without it, Brightspace refuses to enroll users in that role and the integration stops sending changes to Brightspace.
You can find the participant role and the linked teacher roles in 'Role links' in the integration. Read more in 📄 Brightspace - Integration.
What happens when a permission is missing?
Brightspace refuses the request. The integration then stops sending changes to Brightspace: the home page of the integration shows a warning and the Integration log shows 'Brightspace connection lost'.
Note: Add the missing permission, then go to 'Brightspace credentials' in the integration and click on 'Test connection'. Changes made while the connection was lost are not sent again automatically.
