Auto linking enrollments to existing programs

Last updated: July 30, 2026

Summary

When offering high-cost Programs, participants often prefer to pay on a per-course basis rather than paying fully upfront. This allows them to manage costs and progress through the program at their own pace.

Eduframe’s automatic linking feature allows you to seamlessly connect a student's new course enrollments to their existing personal program. This functionality is specifically designed to support a flexible pay-per-course model for programs.

What is Automatic Linking?

With auto-linking, participants can initially enroll in a broader program for free or at a low entry cost. As they progress, they can register and pay upfront for individual courses through your standard website checkout flow. Once the order is confirmed, Eduframe automatically detects and links these individual course enrollments directly to the participants active program—saving you manual administrative work while keeping the participants program progress perfectly up to date.

How does Automatic Linking work?

Without this feature, when a participant purchases and enrolls in a course via the website, the system treats it as a standalone enrollment. Admins would need to manually link this enrollment to the participant's Personal Program to ensure their progress is tracked correctly.

With Automatic Linking enabled, the system automatically checks if a new enrollment fits into a participant's existing personal program.

The system will automatically link a new course enrollment to a Personal Program if all of the following conditions are met:

  • The Personal Program includes that specific course template.

  • The course element on the Personal Program does not already have an enrollment linked to it

  • The Personal Program is not canceled

Configuring Automatic Linking

Automatic linking is 'off' by default. You can globally turn this feature on as follows:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Program settings

  2. Enable or disable the setting based on your preference.

Warning: When enabling both automatic linking and self enrollment at the same time, a student could potentially enroll themselves for free for a course edition by using self enrollment.
